Transforming LIVES

Through research, service and opportunity

2024 Year in Review

Thoughts from the Dean

For 55 years, the College of Education and Human Development has been at the heart of shaping tomorrow’s leaders — individuals of character who make a lasting impact on businesses and industries while enriching communities across Texas and beyond. We are not just a College that prepares exceptional educators; we are a dynamic hub for groundbreaking research that touches every stage of human development and drives positive change across the lifespan.

Transforming Lives celebrates the stories and milestones that define our College’s journey. These are stories of passion, dedication, and success — stories of students, faculty, staff, and supporters who make our mission a reality. Through our programs and initiatives, we elevate the student experience and address some of the most pressing challenges of our time.

From addressing teacher and coaching shortages to advancing literacy for both children and adults; from enhancing early childhood development and education to improving the physical and mental health of families; from preparing future Olympians and Paralympians to supporting the academic and professional journeys of veterans — our work spans a wide range of research, teaching and outreach efforts that make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities alike.

I am honored and privileged to serve as Dean of this College and to share these inspiring stories with you.

96%
FIRST-YEAR RETENTION RATE

Our first-year student retention rate of 95.6% reflects our commitment to student success. In addition, 3 out of every 4 of our undergraduate students graduate within four years. We help make these numbers possible through a comprehensive approach that emphasizes both academic excellence and personal well-being.

Advising

Our dedicated advisors guide students in navigating their coursework, helping them stay on track to graduate on time.

Counseling

We have mental health counseling available through our Byrne Student Success Center and Counseling and Assessment Clinic, ensuring students receive the support they need.

Fueling Success

Our Byrne Center’s grab-and-go pantry provides a convenient way for students to get a quick and healthy snack during the day.

By creating an environment that addresses both academic and personal needs, we empower our students to remain engaged, graduate on time and be fully prepared for their future endeavors.
